Our Staff

Erin Mulligan Graber, Esq.

Senior Attorney/Owner

Erin began her career in 1997 as a victim's advocate through Interact, Wake County's advocacy organization for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Her experience with victim support and advocacy motivated her to enroll in law school at Loyola University School of Law in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 2000.

After earning her law degree, Erin first served as a law clerk for the Honorable Judge William Webb in the Eastern District of North Carolina.  She entered private practice in Raleigh representing clients in criminal and family law matters.  She founded Graber Law Firm, PLLC, in November of 2006.

Erin conducts trial litigation in family law and domestic violence and also serves as a Guardian ad Litem to juveniles. The Committee of Indigent Appointments has deemed her qualified to represent juveniles and defendants on any and all criminal charges.  Erin's extensive courtroom experience in these areas have enabled her to develop a broad expertise in legal, procedural and technical details.

In 2007, Ms. Graber represented North Carolina as a participant in the National Criminal Defense College in Macon, Georgia. This intensive 2-week trial school assisted in her development of evidence and trial skills. In 2009, she was appointed by the Wake County Public Defender to represent North Carolina's criminally insane.

In 2012, Ms. Graber was appointed by Governor Beverly Perdue as a District Court Judge in the 10th Judicial District, serving the remainder of the unexpired term of Judge Jane Gray. She returned to private practice in early 2013.

While not in court, Ms. Graber serves on several boards and committees, including the Wake Women Attorney's and the Wake County Academy of Criminal Trial Lawyers. She also serves as the attorney representative to the STAND Program, a project that focuses on teens dealing with homelessness and domestic violence issues. Additionally, she has been a volunteer attorney through Legal Aid North Carolina representing victims in domestic violence since 2004.

Kat McDonald, Esq.

Associate Attorney

Kat McDonald is an Associate Attorney with Graber Law Firm, PLLC.  A Wake County native, Kat brings a solid legal foundation and a strong commitment to assisting families through transitions and legal challenges.  Kat has worked in the field of family law since 2018.

Kat earned her Juris Doctor from the Campbell University Norman A. Wiggins School of Law, where she received the Spring 2023 Book Award for Family Law Planning.  During law school, she served as Vice President and Event Coordinator for Campbell Women in Law, which received the award for Outstanding Student Organization during her tenure.  She also dedicated significant time to pro bono service, supporting survivors of domestic violence and assisting with children’s advocacy work through the North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence, The Child’s Advocate program, and Campbell Law’s Domestic Violence Pro Bono Project.  In addition, Kat participated in two of Campbell’s pro bono clinics: the Gailor Family Law Litigation Clinic and the Restorative Justice Clinic.

Before attending law school, Kat completed her undergraduate degree in Political Science at North Carolina State University, after earning her associate degree from Wake Technical Community College.  She then worked as a legal assistant at a local law firm, an experience that reinforced her interest in pursuing a career in family law.

Kat’s practice focuses solely on family law matters, including divorce, child custody, child support, postseparation support, equitable distribution, alimony, separation agreements, and related domestic issues.  Her experience and pro bono work have contributed to her understanding of the legal and personal complexities that often arise in family law cases.  She approaches her work with attention to detail, clear communication, and respect for each client’s unique circumstances.

Kat is licensed to practice law in the State of North Carolina where she is a member of the Wake County Bar Association, the North Carolina Bar Association, and the North Carolina State Bar.

Outside of her legal practice, Kat is active in the Raleigh community.  She serves on several boards and committees, including Wake Women Attorneys, the City of Raleigh Museum, and the Wake County Bar Awards Sponsorship Committee.

In her free time, she enjoys traveling, spending time with her three-legged dog, Georgia, cycling, and exploring local restaurants.

K. Currie Carter

Associate Attorney

Currie Carter is an associate attorney admitted to practice in North Carolina who focuses exclusively on family law matters. She has worked in family law since 2021 and was licensed to practice in 2025. Currie earned her Juris Doctor from Campbell University's Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law. She began law school during the height of COVID-19, meeting her classmates for the first time behind masks. During law school, she was selected as a Legal Writing Scholar in her second year and served on Honor Court in her third year.

Before law school, Currie attended Meredith College, where she earned a bachelor's degree with double majors in Political Science and Criminology. She was a member of the Moot Court team and actively participated in campus traditions, especially Cornhuskin', which often fell on her birthday weekend. A self-described workaholic, Currie has balanced demanding schedules since college. Her professional experience includes working for the North Carolina General Assembly, first as an intern and later as a legal assistant. She also bartended at Tin Roof Raleigh for nearly six years and spent three seasons as a professional cheerleader for the Carolina Hurricanes. (GO CANES!)

Originally from the small town of Salemburg, North Carolina, Currie was inspired to pursue a legal career by her grandfather, Bill Poole, a longtime attorney in Clinton, North Carolina. She fondly remembers spending time at his law firm and credits him with instilling in her a strong work ethic and deep respect for the legal profession. Outside the office, Currie enjoys traveling to countries including Japan, England, Spain, Scotland, Ireland, and France, watching movies, sampling every dessert she can find, and letting her tuxedo and orange cats, Binx and Salem, run the household. She also claims partial ownership of her parent's seventy-pound English bulldog named Smokey.

Currie's approach to client representation is straightforward, honest, and grounded in listening. While her father loves to call her a "certified yapper," Currie knows that effective advocacy begins with hearing her clients' concerns and making sure they feel informed and supported throughout the process, something she learned from her mother.

Currie looks forward to working with you at Graber Law and being a trusted advocate for you and your family.
